Introduction This Extra features the drawings of Ray Tustin for the Ashover Light Railway, Lynton & Barnstaple Railway and the Leek & Manifold Valley Light Railway. The Association is deeply indebted to Ray for the kind loan of his original drawings from which this publication has been prepared. The Lynton & Barnstaple and Leek & Manifold drawings first appeared in the Model Railway Constructor in the 1950s. The drawings were prepared at a time when there was far less interest in narrow gauge railways than there is to-day; there was far less published information and many photographs now regarded as 'old chestnuts' had not been unearthed. Thus these drawings formed an important step in the development of our hobby and we are pleased to publish this collection both for their obvious usefulness to to-days modellers and for their historic value. The AuthorRay Tustin has been an active 7mm-scale modeller all his life, having interests in Gauge O railways, trams, buses and other road vehicles as well as narrow gauge railways. He produced the rolling stock drawings for the early editions of J I C Boyd's books on the Welsh narrow gauge railways. His main activity in narrow gauge modelling was in the 1940s - early 1950s when he produced models of the Lynton & Barnstaple and Festiniog locos and stock to a high standard in 7mm scale on 16.5mm track using stud contact. Since then he has concentrated on Gauge O, principally LSWR, and more recently old London street transport also modelled in 7mm scale. © 1981 RE Tustin & the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association.
