Annual General Meeting & Convention 2003 - Saturday May 10th

117 members signed the register together with about ?? members of the public. The number of members present were down on 2002 but still above the 5 year average. Thank you to all the members who provided layouts including our first one from France - Tony Hooper.

Thank you to the Trent Valley Group for organising the day and everyone who helped on the two Sales stands. The Charlesworth family did a sterling job providing the refreshments, the roast pork sandwiches in particular were excellent. I think most traders had good sales.

The number standard of entries in the Competitions section was very good. Thank you to everyone who entered. Every item received at least one vote. A full list of winners is published later. There will be lots of photographs, thanks to Paul Martin in future Narrow Lines. Thank you to Adrian Gray and to his assistant, John Baxendale, for organising everything on the day.

During the Annual General Meeting, the Committee Report & Accounts were adopted. The two amendments to the Constitution were approved. Copies of the Minutes and the updated Constitution and Rules are enclosed with this mailing.

The good news is the subscription rates will remain the same for another year. As postal rates have just been increased, changes in the future may be necessary. More of the Area Groups are either planning further ‘Member’s Days’ or new event are being considered. (more news later as they say).

2004 AGM

As mentioned earlier, we are moving to Burton-on-Trent Town Hall for next year’s AGM & Convention on Saturday 8th May. This will be the AGM in our 25th year. This venue was chosen as it larger and all the exhibition can be in one ground floor room. Separate rooms have been booked for the AGM and the Competitions. Professional bar and catering facilities will be provided. There is a large car park at the venue and it is a few minutes walk from Burton Station.

A venue of this nature costs more than we have been used to paying, therefore the Committee have agreed that there will be small admission charge on the day of £1-00 for members and £2-00 for non-members, to go towards these costs. The Trent Valley Group have been provided with a budget to organise the event.

Howard Clarke Theme Trophy 2004-2007

Theme of 2004 - "Silver Service"

A preserved narrow gauge railway, also celebrating it's 25th Anniversary in 2004, has asked 7mm Narrow Gauge Association, to produce model proposals for a dining and/or kitchen car(s) for it's Silver Jubilee. There are no restrictions on number of vehicles, colour schemes, wheel arrangement or even articulation, but the interior(s) must be detailed and the colour scheme appropriate for a silver jubilee special coach or coaches, in any gauge from 9mm to 21 mm. If you think you can create a convincing dining car in 7mm scale on 9mm gauge - GO FOR IT!

Theme for 2005 - "Are you feeling inclined"

An incline of any type, covering a scale height difference of at least 25 feet, (175 mm in 7mm scale), and include access track (s) long enough for a typical wagon. There should be at least one figure, controlling the winding operation.

Theme for 2006 - "Hole in the ground"

As Bernard Cribbins sang: "Don't dig here, dig it elsewhere. You're digging it round and it ought to be square". A hole, a permanent way vehicle with ganger(s) and a man in a bowler hat. The man in the bowler hat may resemble the Committee Member of your choice.

Theme for 2007 - "Bridge the gap"

No not with a Cadbury's Snack, but a suitable bridge for a gap of at least 25 feet (175 mm in 7mm scale), with sufficient approach track at both ends for a typical 0-4-0 tank locomotive . Height of the bridge deck above the lower level is not specified, but must be adequate for clearance if road, canal or river traffic is presumed. Otherwise, any style or type of bridge, is acceptable.
