Getting started - cover picture

New Web Page: Don Mason has contributed an article on installing Digital Command Control (DCC) in 7mm Narrow gauge Locomotives. It was to big to go in the new edition of "Getting Started", so this new page is attached to the "What We Do Page".

Association Exhibition & AGM

Howard Clarke Trophy Theme for 2010 – “Something Fishy Going On Here”.

A fish quay, with a length of track capable of accommodating up to three typical NG vans, and a loading derrick or crane of your choice. Trawlers, drifters and smacks optional. A minimum of two figures to suit the operations, or lack of them, depicted.

Notice to all members

Review of the timings of the introduction of an annual renewal date of January 1st 2010

Howard's notice concerning the delay in implementation of the new subscriptions period may be seen in the Narrow News (123) section of this site.

Live Joining and renewal!!!

Full members wishing to their subscriptions electronically may now do so. Just go to the "Renewal Page", and follow the instructions. Would existing members, renewing their subscriptions this way, please include their membership number, when renewing. This is to ensure continuity of the magazine mailing service.

New members may also join this way using the procedure on the "Joining Page". Please note that we cannot yet accept joining or renewal applications from prospective student members.

From the web site custodian:

As notified above and on the home page, the first phase of electronic transactions, via this web site, has now commenced operation. Initially, this is confined to on-line joining and subscription renewal. Members may now pay and renew using a PayPal™ account. It will still be possible, throughout 2010, to renew subscriptions using the download forms on this site but after 2010 (from 1st Jan 2011) we expect to only accept paper renewals, or take new subscriptions on paper form, at the major shows supported by the Association, including our own Exhibition and AGM.

We intend to introduce further changes to the site in September 2010, to allow members (only) to shop for modelling goods and publications through this site. This Phase 2 implementation will also utilise PayPal™ and will bring not only efficiency and cost savings for your Committee, but will save members having to download and complete paper order forms.

Finally we expect, in Phase 3, to have the archive digitised, and be able to produce complete year sets of Narrow Lines or filter sets of articles on one subject. It may also be possible to offer a limited second-hand sales facility on this site, confined perhaps to high value items such as locomotives, accompanied by digital photographs, so potential buyers can see what is being offered. The target for this is 1st January 2011, but please note that this third Phase is an aspiration at the moment, and will require a number of Committee decisions early in 2010 and some additional work. Again breaking news on this site, as the next mailing will not be until the first week in February, so stay tuned!

New Web Site Custodian

With effect from 6th Feb, Chris Davis (Southdown Group) takes over from me as web site custodian. This update will therefore be my last, but please keep the layout diary dates coming to web@7mmnga.org.uk as the emails will automatically be redirected. A big thank you to all members who have supported the web site during my tenure.

Situations Vacant

The Committee would like to hear from willing volunteers, who would be prepared to become Membership Secretary (See Narrow News 123 for details).

There is also a requirement for our Treasurer, Rod Tickner, to be assisted over the next 18 months to 2 years, to help out with all the changes. Willing volunteers, please contact Rod or Howard Martin.

Enrolment and Membership Changes

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Nigel Auckland has had to stand down as Membership Secretary with immediate effect. In the interim, Mike Pountney has agreed to take over the Membership activity except for enrolment, which will transfer to Graham Chalmers until more permanent arrangements can be made. Please refer all membership matters to Mike Pountney until further notice.

Association Binders - Withdrawal

The stock of binders for Narrow Lines has now run out. As they are not popular and would not cost effective to replace, they will not be restocked. Members may still obtain the correct size binders, but without the Association printing, from:

Modern Bookbinders Ltd
Pringle Street
Blackburn
BB1 1SA UK
Tel: 01254 59371
Fax: 01254 59373
www.modernbookbinders.co.uk

Magazine Mailings

Mailings normally take place during the FIRST FULL WEEK of the due month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct, Dec). UK Members should allow 5-10 days for delivery. Would all members please note that the magazine, Narrow News and any administrative paperwork is distributed automatically by our printers. If your magazine has not arrived within the allowance stipulated above, and there is no explanation on this web site, then please contact the Membership Secretary.

General

We still occasionally receive observations, of members exhibiting layouts at shows but their appearances not being advertised on the web site Show Diary, or in Narrow News. Please help other Association members with your exhibition diaries. The Committee would also appreciate all members exhibiting layouts to display Association publicity material on or adjacent to their layout. A copy of the latest publicity leaflet is available on this site attached to the Publicity page.
